These pics, in no particular order, are from my day of wandering yesterday. Haven't hit the touristy must-see spots yet. I was waiting for Rachel to get here to do them with her. I just found out that she will be arriving a few days later than originally planned... passport visa complications. I am excited for her to get here!
This is a sign for the Advocacy Forum, where Marc spends most of his daily hours working for Human Rights here (why I am mostly wandering by myself for now).
A mural being painted outside a school down the street from 'our' house in Chandol.
Happy dude sticking his head out a bus... the traffic is crazy here. Basically anything goes for cars, buses, motorcycles, bikes, pedestrians, occasional cows, tuk tuks (3 wheel cars that follow a set route like a bus). Walking down the street is quite an experience.
Nepali woman and cows.
One of thousands of shrines to Gods/Goddesses which you can find all over Kathmandu. Most people here are some mix of Hindu/Buddhist, with some Muslims thrown in for good measure. The Jews all work at NGO's or are Israeli travelers...
Notice the AMAZING Bodhi tree growing out of the shrine above the people. Somebody must've planted that tree hundreds of years ago and now it is fully encapsulating the brick structure dedicated to some god or another. This is located at a random intersection maybe a mile or so from our house.
Nepali men making a tapestry.
A shrine for the tree 'that gives shelter' while a woman sweeps away dust in the background.
Boys playing basketball in a courtyard.
I randomly found the 'Nepal Association of Fine Arts'.
This kid was playing in the park outside the NAFA.
My brief foray into a 'slum' area. Aadesh, a Nepali guy told me to tell people, 'The river here is amazing! They have black water!' Clearly from silt and pollution...
Two men outside a shrine.
Woman carrying bricks.
This kid asked me to take his picture. The other men are playing a common game with disks here, kindof like pool only completely different.
That's all for now... hope you can handle it.
